Frequently Asked Questions from Futurebuild 2026

Thank you to everyone who visited the Island Block & Paving stand during FutureBuild 2026.

We enjoyed discussing sustainable masonry, architectural design and showcasing Australia’s first complete range of Carbon Neutral certified range of bricks, building blocks, pavers and retaining walls.

Across the three days, a handful of questions came up again and again. We’ve answered them below for anyone who wanted to learn a little more.

How do your bricks, blocks, pavers and retaining walls achieve “Carbon Neutral” status?

Carbon Neutral (net-zero) status is achieved by via manufacturing initiatives that result in industry low emissions – up to 73% lower than some clay manufacturers published data. Nil energy 24-hour curing, 37.6% recycled content, solar farm energy, captured site water and cement replacements are the cornerstone. Any remaining emissions are offset via carbon credit purchases supporting projects like Greenfleets tree reforestation projects. All claims are annually third-party verified by Global Greentag Australia with certificates published here.

Are your products recognised in the Green Building council’s Responsible Products calculator?

Yes, our RPV score is 27 which is an industry high amongst our fellow masonry manufacturers. We receive points for our Global GreenTag accreditations – CarbonRate (carbon neutrality), GreenRate Level A (37.6% recycled content), EPD EN15804 and a Product Health Declaration (Platinum Level).

Are your products Australian Made and what surface finishes are available?

Yes, all bricks, blocks, pavers and retaining walls are Australian Made with current ISO:9002 accreditation strict dimensional accuracy and a low 3% cold water absorption is achieved. Smooth, exposed aggregate and refined surface finishes are available, these offer unique design options with the finely tuned recycled glass content within a highlight.

If we specify your “Carbon Neutral” products, do we have to fill out a project specific Opt-In application form to ensure any carbon credits are purchased?

NO, we don’t use opt-in programs because they aren’t fool proof. If the opt-in application form isn’t completed by the specifier, then no credits are purchased by the manufacturer offering the program, meaning the project is not carbon neutral. Island Block & Paving make it easy for specifiers as the entire sustainable range is certified carbon neutral annually: with all current verifications/certificates available for download 24/7.

What does no saw cutting mean for your 25mm Brick Slips?

Our 25mm Brick Slips are manufactured using the same Carbon Neutral verified process as our full-sized brick range, delivering the same quality, finish and sustainability benefits in a slimline 25mm profile. No waste, no silica dust, no WHS risks operating saw cutting equipment and a much lower carbon footprint.

What radius brick curves can be achieved?

We have a lot of information available for Bricks 230mm x 110mm x76mm and the elongated Bespoke Bricks 390mm x 110mm x 60mm high. R300 bricks in both sizes will be available soon.

Do you have information on your carbon emissions compared to other manufacturers?

Yes we do we have an industry comparisons document available; this summarizes our total emissions from our audited data directly against other manufacturers published EPD data. An example is all Island Block & Paving’s sustainable products emissions are offset annually versus a company with an opt-in program and emissions of 211,000 tonnes of CO2e, they report their offsets at only 2.6% of the 211,000 tonnes.
