Northern Suburbs Community Hub Built with Carbon Neutral Masonry

Over 25,000 of Island Block & Paving’s Carbon Neutral building blocks helped bring Launceston’s new Northern Suburbs Community Recreation Hub to life. Manufactured using recycled glass aggregates, the blocks supplied to the project helped divert approximately 80,000kg of glass from landfill – the equivalent of around 450,000 glass bottles being repurposed into durable masonry products. As part of our Sustainable Products for the Future range, the masonry used throughout the project combines long-term durability with independently verified sustainability credentials, helping support more environmentally responsible construction outcomes across Tasmania.

Sustainable Masonry Designed for the Future

At Island Block & Paving, sustainability is not an afterthought – it is built into the way our products are manufactured.

Our Carbon Neutral masonry products incorporate recycled materials and are independently third-party verified through Global GreenTag’s CarbonRATE™ program. The range is also GreenRate Level A certified, helping architects, builders and developers confidently specify products backed by transparent environmental credentials.

The use of recycled glass aggregates within the manufacturing process helps reduce landfill waste while supporting a more circular construction economy. Combined with long-lasting durability and low maintenance performance, Carbon Neutral concrete masonry continues to provide a practical and sustainable building solution for large-scale community infrastructure projects.

Building Stronger Communities with Sustainable Products

Projects like the Northern Suburbs Community Recreation Hub demonstrate how sustainable manufacturing and community-focused infrastructure can work together to create meaningful long-term outcomes.

Island Block & Paving is proud to have supplied Carbon Neutral masonry products to a project focused on accessibility, inclusion and future community growth – helping deliver durable infrastructure while reducing environmental impact.

By incorporating recycled materials and independently verified Carbon Neutral masonry into major developments, projects like this help showcase how the construction industry can continue moving toward more sustainable building practices.

Proudly Supporting Tasmanian Projects

Seeing our Carbon Neutral building blocks used in landmark Tasmanian projects is something we are incredibly proud of.

The Northern Suburbs Community Recreation Hub is more than just a sporting facility –  it is a long-term investment in community connection, wellbeing and opportunity for Northern Tasmania.

Island Block & Paving is proud to have contributed sustainable masonry solutions to a project designed to support future generations.
